Advent: We wait for our coming king

Micah 5 describes a conquering king who will defeat all of the pain and suffering we face everyday. Our suffering is ascribed to the sin that now rules the world. When our king, the Lord Jesus Christ returns, we believe that this sin will be destroyed and with it, our pain and suffering. Can you take comfort in knowing that our suffering is temporary?

When the God of all glory came to earth in the form of baby, the first hands to touch him were likely the callused hands of the working class. While kings and rulers were denied an audience with the new born king, shepherds were in attendance. What does that tell us about the roots of Christianity?  (re-posted from 2016)

Advent: Waiting with a servant

The great promise of the advent season is that Christ will return and make things right for everyone. While we wait for his return, we can take comfort that the coming Christ often shows up in our lives as a gentle servant, ready to fix our personal, shattered worlds (Is 42:1-4).

Advent: We wait with a promise

While Christians mourn with the broken and work to be like Jesus by helping the vulnerable
(James 2), we also recognize our inability to truly change the world. The great hope of the Christian, is that one day Christ will return and bring justice and mercy to our broken world. Genesis 3 gives us that first glimpse of coming savior.

Who was the first to hear that God's Son was born?

The news that God had sent HIS Son, Jesus Christ, into the world was first given to 

the most socially unacceptable men of the day. Shepherds were financially poor and

socially excluded. They would not have been welcome in the worship services or Temple.

But God saw their worth, and gave the wonderful news to these "lest of these" first.

How do we treat those on the fringe our polite social circles?

What kind of God do you serve?

Have you ever wondered what kind of God is God? Moses received an answer to this question in Exodus 6, where God describes Himself as the God who made a promise to be with His people and the God who would keep this promise. One way God demonstrated this was by leading Israel as a pillar of fire. What's your response to a God who wants to be with you?

Sometimes Christianity begins to like an exclusive club for only a specific kind of person. However, the book of Revelation tells us that God is calling people of all sorts to fill His kingdom and be His children (Rev 5:9-10). Can you believe that those who deny you are loved by God are wrong, and accept His love?
