Nehemiah seeks safety for his people

Nehemiah is devastated by the news that God's people are living in an unsafe place (Neh 1). The stories of persecution and lack of safety for his people, moved Nehemiah to give up his place in the king's court and travel to a place of danger, in order to help his people. What kind of move are we willing to make to ensure the safety of those around us?

Are My Rights Blocking the Gospel?

The Apostle Paul willingly suspended his rights ( Rom 14) when they were preventing others

from receiving the gospel. What rights are we willing to suspend to promote the gospel?

and become the new king. David refuses to harm Saul, trusting God to deliver the kingdom

in God's own time. David's patience and mercy reflect God's nature.

Samuel's child-faith

1 Samuel 3 tells the story of a boy whose spiritual mentors and leaders were greatly lacking. The boy,

Samuel, demonstrates the kind of wide-eyed wonder we associate with our earliest faith in Christ.

We might all be able to remember a time when faith was fresh and we were so busy praising God 

enjoying the miracle of salvation that we didn't think to find fault with those around us. What

would it take for you to return to that state?

Be Lifted Out of Adversity

When faced with adversity of any sort, the Christian can take comfort in a God

who declares himself to be God and God alone (Psalm 86:10). The dangers and devices of this

world cannot thwart Him, or even give Him Pause. Read Judges 7 for an example of how God

works. We may still be wary of the sharks but take comfort in the declaration of God.

What Do You Do When God Seems to be Contradicting Himself?

Genesis 22:1-2 is a passage that tests our faith almost as much the hero of the passage (Abraham). Abraham is asked to do the unthinkable, kill his son for God. Even more difficult to reconcile is the fact that God had also revealed that Abraham's son would one day be the start of a very large  family. Somehow Abraham was able to trust God ins spite of the seemingly contradictory ideas and proved himself a man of faith. How do you handle difficult requests from God?

It's important to note the story goes on to say that God did not ask that Abraham kill his son, but that He, God, provided an alternative. In the New Testament, we see God giving His Son and ending the practice sacrifice. In the place of burnt offerings, People of faith are now called on to provide help and comfort to others as a way demonstrating devotion to God.
